A good place to start is to educate yourself and your team on some of the most common risk factors for sexual harassment. The EEOC Task Force has identified the most common risk factors and strategies for harassment prevention. The EEOC has identified the following risk factors for workplace denunciar acoso laboral:
1. Homogeneous workforce – This type of work group lacks true diversity. Employees who are members of a minority group may feel isolated and vulnerable to pressure from others. Employees in the majority, on the other hand, may feel threatened by those in their group who they perceive to be “different” from them and may feel emboldened to harass minority workers. Increasing diversity at all levels of the workforce and paying close attention to how employees interact with one another are two excellent ways to work on this.
2. Workplaces where some employees do not conform to workplace norms – An example of this would be a single-gender work environment, such as the mining industry, where one gender outnumbers the other. Mining is a largely male-dominated industry. Minority employees may be perceived as weak or vulnerable to abuse. Managers can improve this situation by instilling a culture of respect and civility toward all employees.
3. Workplace culture and language differences – New employees may arrive from various cultures or nationalities. As a result, employees from different cultures may be unintentionally separated. Employees from one culture may be less aware of workplace laws and norms in this situation. Employees who do not speak English, for example, may not fully understand their rights and may be exploited. The most effective way to combat this is to present laws, policies, and workplace norms in a language that culturally diverse employees understand.
4. Coarsened social discourse outside of the workplace – This may occur when current events outside of the workplace are being discussed with increased zeal or passion. This could happen, for example, around a major political election. When employee discourse outside of work becomes coarse, it can have an impact on how employees interact with one another at work. Be proactive in anticipating when this might happen and remind your employees of appropriate and inappropriate workplace behavior.
